- Indexability (also referred to as “visibility”) – this means optimising the structure of the site to allow easy indexing by search engine spiders down to individual category and subcategory level.
- Relevance – focusing these elements so that they are all reinforcing and developing central concepts (keywords) which drive traffic to the site
- Popularity (also referred to as “reputation”) – the number and importance of organic links to the site: the greater the link popularity, the higher the placement
- Measurement – the ongoing process of monitoring how the site performs using individual categories, products and specific search terms
